Yellow and Purple ... Anything comes in your mind! Correct "Los Angeles Lakers". Purple and yellow uniform may not the best combination in sports but we all know it is the deadliest combination. Los Angeles Lakers are known for their swiftness and this flashiness now become their symbol of success. You know why they are known as "Lakers"? Because they started out in Minnesota initially, that is the land of 1000 lakes. No wonder they play like the flow of water. They are one of the # 1 Basketball team in NBA. Lakers have extra ordinary brilliant players as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. These treasured members of this incredible team are a grantee to success.
All players of LA Lakers are peerless. They have made history and still making new records. There have been a lot of controversies about Los Angeles Lakers too. Like any other team in sports, they also had their ups and downs. Other teams also beat them, but still they always manage to have a marvelous comeback after a down phase. Sometimes even the best players of LA Lakers also have low times of their career but its part of the game. There are people who hate their guts too, though I wonder why? Undoubtedly they are the best.
Earvin "Magic" Johnson born in Michigan was fated for fame from the first day when he set his first step in basketball court at Lansing Everett High School till the day of his retirement from Los Angeles Lakers. His playing career is highlighted only and only by winning. His success started from winning championship at high school level, and from there he never looked back. It proved to be a milestone for success to win championships in college, then professionally and finally internationally. "Magic" became star over night. He led the Lakers to their championship in 1980 NBA over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Johnson become NBA All-Star12-time in his 13-year career, he was also named NBA MVP three times, in 1987, 1989 and 1990. Magic was NBA's unbeaten leader in assists until Utah's John Stockton broke the record.
Number 8 of LA Lakers is another valuable gem. Kobe Bryant was born August 23, 1978 having basketball already in his family. Kobe Byant's father was former NBA star, Joe known as "Jellybean". Bryant played for the 76ers, Clippers and Rockets. At the age of six Kobe's family moved to Italy as Joe Bryant Kobe's father started playing basketball in Europe. Bryant's family stayed in Italy for seven years. Living in Italy, Kobe Bryant learned fluent Italian and also started playing basketball.
Kobe never attended the college but it didn't affect his game. Kobe Bryant was a quick learner on the courts of the NBA. In 1997 he played in the NBA All-Star Game for the first time and till 2000, Kobe Bryant emerged as one of the basketball's best players. Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal both teamed up to lead LA Lakers and managed to win three straight NBA Championship Titles from 2000 to 2002. Now Bryant alone is leading the league in scoring. He set a team record by scoring 81 points in a game on January 22, 2005. That is 2nd most points scored in a game in NBA history!
These black jewels of the team adorn the LA Lakers. The dust of success will not settle down it will trail more victories.
